SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY RATING

SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY RATING

Texas Education Agency (TEA) assigns accountability ratings to Texas schools.

Accountability Rating: This refers to the district and campus ratings assigned by the 2018 state accountability system.

Districts and campuses receive an accountability rating based on an A–F scale. They are evaluated on performance on the STAAR completion rate and annual dropout rate as well as performance in these three areas:

  1. Student Achievement - measures what students know and can do by the end of the year. It includes results from state assessments across all subjects for all students, on both general and alternate assessments.
  2. School Progress - measures how much better students are doing on the STAAR test this year versus last year, and how much better students are doing academically relative to schools with similar percentages of economically disadvantaged students.
  3. Closing the Gaps - looks at performance among student groups, including various racial/ethnic groups, socioeconomic backgrounds and other factors.

While the accountability ratings system looks at the district's performance as a whole in the areas of reading, math, writing, science and social studies, it also looks at the performance of grade levels at each campus by five state-determined student groups.
